Dear all
For those who haven't caught up with results over the weekend yet, the Nationwide Knights won the first EIHA Recfest non-checking tournament inSwindonover the weekend. With twelve teams taking part, the Knights won all three First Round group games on Saturday to qualify for the top Championship group on the Sunday. Then two wins and a draw in the last game to eventual runners-up Milton Keynes Hurricanes secured enough points for the Knights to win the group and the trophy! Well done to Shaun for getting the overall EIHA defender of the tournament award, and to Froudy for receiving the Knights coaches' award for our player of the tournament. Woody top scored with seven goals.
In summary the results were:
Day 1
Knights 3 SwindonRec Wildcats 0
Knights 2 Medway Madness 0
Knights 5 PeterboroughPredators 0
Day 2
Knights 1 Royal Navy 0
Knights 4SheffieldSqueelers 1
Knights 0 Milton KeynesHurricanes 0
Winners - Knights, 2nd- MK Hurricanes, 3rd- Royal Navy.
I'd like to get a formal presentation picture taken at the start of next training on Fri 2 September, so put your white socks on. Vanda - please bring the white shirts; Bondy - please retrieve and bring down the trophy.
Cheers
Dave a.k.a. Silks

Coach - Bondy Taylor; or are you going to dress for some/all of the games?
It is on the assumption that with the best will in the world everyone will be at training on Friday. A few notes from messages so far:
- Geoff tweaked his groin last weekend inCardiffso will rest up on Friday
- James will be late arriving at training on Friday
- Martin is due to work in the branch on Saturday; did you manage to get it off?
- G has lunch on Sunday and will miss a few hours
Liam/Garry - what shirt numbers have you recently played in? Axel has the blue shirts… remind me who has the white shirts (Froudy?)… can you check all the shirts are in the bags?
- Arrival; can everyone be there for 9.30am please. Please all wear either your grey hoody or other Knights apparel. Let me know if you need white or blue socks (£10 a pair of course!).
- Matches:
Tournament stats at 10.00am.
11.55am - v.SwindonRec Wildcats
1.10pm - v. Medway Madness
3.25pm - v.PeterboroughPredators
(5.00pm; playoffs, if applicable i.e. we finish 2ndor 3rdin our group)
- Sunday starts at 9.00am - schedule to be confirmed at the end of Saturday.
Looking forward to what should be a great weekend.
Cheers

Dear all
Two games at the weekend; all available players included for the game on Sunday, however just 14 experienced players are in the team for Friday with the exception of Joe B (on holiday) and Chappers (not icing). A stunning response to my request for your availability for the rest of the summer - thanks to the four or five people who responded… it makes it all worthwhile.
Home game - likely to be white shirts - I'll confirm; I'll also confirm what we're playing in on Sunday, but likely to beGREEN.

Coach - Bondy Taylor
I need someone to take over the organisation/confirmation of match day roles. Who is willing to do this? It's just making sure before 10pm on Friday we have someone lined up for every role as follows:
Stage - need at least scorer and a timekeeper, and announcer would be good too. Bondy - Marie and Chris OK for this? Could they be down for 10pm? I just need to run over one or two things on scoring as a few things need to be filled in a bit differently.
Froudy - mom awards.
Bondy - clock. We now have our own pucks. I also have a full pad of game sheets.
Beers - G. Can you get 20 packs rather than 15s? Asda are currently selling 20 x Carlsbergs for £10. Many thanks.
Nets on - two volunteers
Nets off - two volunteers
Pucks off at end of warm up - a volunteer
Paying refs - get a receipt from the refs and pay them. Someone needs to volunteer to do this (Thanks for doing this recently Bondy - are you happy to continue doing this?)
Money - I will arrange the petty cash
EIHA players list - I will print one off
All players should be down at10pm latestto help and be prepared to do any jobs asked. Remember everyone needs to be ready for 10.45pm, 5 mins warm up max, game finishes latest (with running clock if necessary in 3rdperiod) at 12.30am, out of the Link at 1am.
One of the best days out we have. However there are a few costs to be aware of. I'm suggesting for a change we drive to Southsea, and get the Hovercraft rather than the passenger ferry fromPortsmouth. Bring along your student ID cards for a discount.
We need to be parked up ready for the hovercraft at 3pm (and allowing for last minute no parking spaces being available). Google Maps suggests 1 hour and 40 minutes, so let's say 2 hours including contingency. So that means being ready to leaveSwindonat1pm latest(i.e. not 1.15pm or 1.30pm). It would make sense to travel with as few vehicles as possible. If we can carve up the travel arrangements on Friday night, I would be happy to go straight there and not f*rt around at the Link Centre particularly as it's car boot sale day.

Dear all
Two games at the weekend; all players included for the game on Friday, however just the 15 experienced players are in the team for Sunday. Robin has made a rapid recovery and may ice in at least one of the two games. In the true spirit of "players are expected to play away games as well as home games", can any experienced player let me know if they are unable to play on Sunday, and they then may be de-selected for Friday's game. I will not be impressed if someone plays on Friday and then subsequently lets me know they are unavailable for Sunday!
Remember non-standing order payers are expected to bring down their usual payments. Liam - I've included you in the team although I appreciate you've missed the last few training sessions; remember you owe £12.50 from your last session. Thanks.
Home game - likely to be white shirts - I'll confirm. I'll bring socks down for the new players; please note these are £10 a pair.

Dear all
Here's the list of registered players excluding our 4 new players who I've not included for this game against one of the better Rec teams on the circuit. One or two players we've not seen for a while (G and Chappers), and one or two are behind with their subs. If I was to exclude some players for not being at training or not being fully paid up, we'd not have much of a team. I'm also still to decide whether to ice myself. So I've put everyone on the teamlist, but priority may be given to some players over others.

The Titans, Statesmen and possibly the home game on 6 August will be for the experienced team.

Dear all
An early reminder that we have training again this Friday 13 May. Non-attenders are politely reminded that they should contact me to let me know if you won't be there. Please also copy in my home e-mail, silks06@yahoo.co.uk.
After a few weeks now, thanks to Iain Liddon for passing me all his paperwork - but he's the only one!! So… I need the rest of yours by Friday (see below) or otherwise I really can't let you on the ice (EIHA Recreational hockey rules, not mine). In summary:
Gary and Martin - I need a passport photo and proof of age
Liam - I need all of yours (50 millionth reminder)
Jack/Shoppy - are you registering?
Ken - it's all gone quiet, are you still interested?
James - are you coming down on Friday?
Can you let me know what kit you still need. I think we've exhausted all of the team's stuff, but I'm prepared to use a bit of Knights' money to lend you the final bits you might need until you're in a position to buy your own. Ian Clark will order it for us from his shop (below) and give us a discount. Incidentally having met him last week he's happy to offer all Knights a discount, and I'll be asking Froudy to put an advert to his shop and a link on the front page of the Knights website to promote his shop.
http://www.allstarhockeyproshop.co.uk/
Larry/Geoff (good to hear you were back) - I need your £45.
I'm on the case and reminders and various other threatening letters will be issued before the end of the week to those that owe money. I'll be expecting everyone to settle up by Friday or be in touch to make an arrangement. Again it's not fair to those who are paying that others owe money but you all know that.
Home to Westminster Statesmen on Fri 22 July now confirmed.

Just to confirm I've postponed training to Friday 6 May. So we'll also have training again the week after on Friday 13 May.
I've also sent a note to Cardiff Titans, the Statesmen and the Solent Vikings (Isle of Wight) trying to get some games organised with them - more to follow. I've asked the Wildcats how much ice will cost for convenient times at the weekend.
Finally, I've enquired with Edinburgh Phoenix about the possibility of playing a game there in September - and then hopefully expanding that to a weekend north of the border.
See you soon
Dave a.k.a. Silks
Just catching up after being off for two weeks. We're just about there with the top two in terms of paperwork - but can the others please update me in terms of your intentions? I'll have a chase up around the team to see where we might be able to offer kit, but it might be you'll need to get a few items yourselves. I've attached details of two leaving players, together with details of Clarky's shop as recommended by some of our existing players. Froudy - do you think we could formally negotiate a Knights discount if we send lots of people his way?

And a reminder…
Registration - the English Ice Hockey Association Recreational section advises that to keep everything above board for insurance purposes, I need you to register by completing the attached form and forwarding it to me. I will also need a passport photo, £45 for your registration and proof of age (copy passport, driving licence or birth certificate).
Cost per session - just to let new players know, the cost per session is £12.50. When you are playing in the team this becomes £25 per month payable by standing order. The next training session is Friday 15 April.
Cheers
Dave
PS. Next training likely to be Friday 6 May at 10.15/10.30pm for 11.00pm on the ice.
David Littlewood
A fantastic 11-2 away win away at Basingstoke Hyenas on Saturday leads us into a potentially more challenging game against Solihull Vikings who had a recent close game against the Cardiff Titans.
Game v. Solihull Vikings (away) - Solihull ice rink, 8pm
Well two firsts for me - first game ever in Solihull, and also a first game against the long standing Solihull Vikings. Let's play again in green (Woody - you have the shirts), as Solihull have white or red jerseys. From my understanding the team is:
1 Wayne Joyce
6 Dave Littlewood
8 Robin Littlewood
9 Paul Morrissey
13 Vanda Tanner
14 Alex Collins
16 Joe Bangs
31 Gary Froud
44 Ian Houston
88 Neil Gatherum
89 Shaun Littlewood
34 James Wood
Charlie Grier
Steve Chapman
(updated - 14 players)
Not icing
Axel Foley - holiday
Joe Dickens - skiing
Ray Taylor - retired from playing
Please let me know asap if you are unable to play. Can we all meet at the Link Centre at around 5.00/5.15pm on Sunday. Can all players be prepared to help the driver out with fuel costs - at £1.38 per litre for diesel it's a double penalty for the driver if he/she has to drive and pay for the privilege of taking his/her car.
Cheers
Dave a.k.a. Silks
Dear all
We'll have another beginners' session on Friday. After that, we'll need to get those interested in continuing to register as per my original note below. We'll see again what we can do to support you with kit, but after that you may need to make some commitment to filling the gaps with being prepared to but some new or second hand kit yourselves. Please can the beginners let me know if you are able to come on Friday.
Bondy - can you again ask Steve please for one last access to the beginners' helmets/sticks - thanks.
I'll ask Clive for access to skates.
1 Wayne Joyce
7 Ray Taylor
8 Robin Littlewood
9 Paul Morrissey
13 Vanda Tanner
14 Alex Collins
28 Miles Bailey
31 Gary Froud
44 Ian Houston
88 Neil Gatherum
89 Shaun Littlewood
91 Joe Dickens
James Wood
Charlie Grier

Dear all
A reminder that we have our last training of the year tonight. Friday 10 December is going to be cancelled. Bondy is unfortunately unable to attend due to injury and Shaun also passes on his apologies. Please bring registration money, standing order details, money, etc. so I can sort out all the paperwork during our winter break. Can you please let me know if you are unable to attend - we had a few no shows last time without contact. Thanks.
A reminder that a refund will be given to all SO payers for December. I will bring down brown envelopes at our first session in January. We will start off the new year with a bang and training on Friday 7 January, the 14th, the 21st (i.e. 3 weeks on the trot), before we go back to our fortnightly sequence.
See you later.
Dave a.k.a. Silks
Dear all
Just to confirm for tomorrow...
8.30am - Robin picks up Porky from his house and they collect the minibus from M4 near the County Ground
c. 9.00am - Robin will pick up Houstie and take him to our house (Robin should have contacted you Houstie)
9.00/9.15am - First pick up at Froudy's house - Froudy, Bernd, Alex, Joycey (Porky - can you ask Joycey to make his way to Froudy's for 9am)
9.30am - Second pick up at my house - me, Shaun, Robin, Houstie, Joe D (Shaun - can you liaise with Joe D about him getting a lift to our house)
Cost - could everyone please bring £35 for accommodation (£10 deposit and £25 B & B) - you get the £10 back on Sunday morning. We're picking up the cost of the minibus (I'll give Robin the cash tonight) - bring c. £15 each to cover the diesel.
I hope that includes everything - remember your green socks or tell me if you haven't got a pair!
Cheers

Team
Unfortunately we are down to a hardcore of 10 as follows:
1 Wayne Joyce
6 Dave Littlewood
7 Robin Littlewood
9 Paul Morrissey
14 Alex Collins
19 Bernd Maier
31 Gary Froud
44 Ian Houston
89 Shaun Littlewood
91 Joe Dickens
Unfortunately Geoff can't now make it; and Joe B's back will not allow him to travel. However the temptation of a cultural trip was too much for Bernd who I'm delighted to say now joins the team. We will play in GREEN shirts.
Cost
I'd like to acknowledge the loyal band of travelling players who are making the trip. As such the Nationwide Ice Hockey Club will be picking up the tab for the minibus (£175). So all we will need to do is pay for the diesel and the B & B. So allow £15 each for the diesel - the B&B is £25 per head including breakfast (and Alex, Froudy and Joe have already pail £30).
So that's it - a great trip in prospect! See you Saturday - I'll give you all a call in advance to ensure I know where you will all be picked up from.
Cheers
Silks
This it! The big one. Our visitors arrive c/o Stansted on Friday evening and are staying at the Menzies Hotel. A minibus is taking them from and to Stansted. They are due to arrive around 7pm to 8pm. Many thanks to Joe Bangs who is picking up Winki and Doris from Heathrow on Friday lunchtime.
What we will need is an offer or offers to take them from there to the rink from say 9.30-ish onwards - anyone with a nice big van able to help? Thanks to Bondy for securing a room at the Link where they (and
us) could store their kit overnight.
Plan for Saturday at the moment is a BBQ afterwards from 8pm at the Harvey - thanks for organising Bondy. Then after that there could be a variety of plans!
Knights' team:
1 Wayne Joyce
6 Dave Littlewood
8 Robin Littlewood
9 Paul Morrissey
12 Geoff Collins
13 Vanda Tanner
14 Alex Collins
16 Joe Bangs
19 Bernd Maier
31 Gary Froud
44 Ian Houston
89 Shaun Littlewood
91 Joe Dickens
(13 players)
Bench coach - Mr Ray Taylor
Stage - Jojo, Kelly.
Froudy - mom awards
Bondy - clock and pucks; and can you nick a game sheet out of the office too please?
Nets on - Joe and Shaun
Nets off - Alex and Paul
Pucks off at end of warm up - Robin
Can you ALL please make sure you are down by 4pm latest and be prepared to do any other jobs asked.
Cheers
Dave a.k.a. Silks
Dear all
We've got a busy four weeks coming up, and to be frank this suddenly feels like really hard work. Why? Requests to confirm commitment for games has been slow or not forthcoming, people not reading e-mails where I'm asking people to do things so I have to remind people again and again, and so on.
So anyway as mentioned a number of times before, we need to pull together and be prepared to help out as much as possible over the next 4 weeks and be prepared to put out for the sake of the rest of the team. So again in summary here's what's lined up:
Sat 14-Aug-10 5.00pm Home Newcastle Coyotes
Sun 15-Aug-10 8.30pm Away Milton Keynes Jesters
Fri 20-Aug-10 10.45pm Home Training
Sat 21-Aug-10 5.00pm Home Great Pillnach
Fri 03-Sep-10 10.45pm Home Training (TBC - likely to be moved)
Sat 04-Sep-10 10.00pm Away Newcastle Coyotes (at Whitley Bay)
Sun 05-Sep-10 12.00pm Away Newcastle Predators (at Whitley Bay)
So what do we need to do?
1. This weekend...
So is this the team for Saturday and Sunday?
1 Wayne Joyce
6 Dave Littlewood
8 Robin Littlewood
9 Paul Morrissey
12 Geoff Collins (?)
13 Vanda Tanner
14 Alex Collins
16 Joe Bangs
31 Gary Froud (G)
44 Ian Houston
89 Shaun Littlewood
91 Joe Dickens
Coach Ray Taylor
A grand total of 12 players... and how many away on Sunday?
Off stage - Jojo, are you available or can someone help line up an off ice team? If we can't, either no game or 1 or 2 players will need to do it; names in a hat?
Others
2 Andy Foley (but if you play Sun, you can play Sat)
9 Paul Morrissey (Sun - childcare)
19 Bernd Maier (in Germany - sorry if you've already told me Bernd, but I thought you were here)
88 Neil Gatherum (not playing away games)
Jack Groves (has not forwarded me registration details)
2. HC Great weekend...
We potentially need people to collect the Finns from Stansted on Friday teamtime-ish and deposit them back on Sunday night (their plane is very early Monday morning, if I'm not mistaken. Winki and Doris also needed to be collected on Friday and taken back on Sunday afternoon (I think to Heathrow or Gatwick).
Any volunteers?
3. Whitley Bay weekend...
I had confirmed this team: Froudy (paid £30), Shaun, Joe B, Joe D (paid £30), Silks, Robin, Alex (paid £30), Porky, Houstie, Jack Groves. But no Jack Groves registration stuff!! So only nine confirmed players - as per a Facebook note, has anyone had a chance to speak to Joycey, Geoff and... (sorry, can't remember the other name(s) I added...)?
See what I mean about this being hard work?!? And I still haven't booked the hotel, talked about travel up to Whitley Bay yet, etc.
4. Can you all please reply!
Can you all reply to my work and home e-mail silks06@yahoo.co.uk and confirm your commitments and how you can help. Any help from former team mates for the next two home weekends (e.g. Nelly) would be gratefully accepted.
I will contact non-emailers, Joycey, Geoff and Houstie.
Thanks.
Silks
Dear all
Just to confirm I've added in an away game at Cardiff v. the Demons on Saturday 3 July at the very sociable time of 4.30pm. Another Cardiff team, after the Eagles, Lightning, Titans… the Demons. I've offered them ice at our place on 25 Jun or 23 Jul.
The MK Jesters are looking for a date for us up there which might mean our final game of the season might be home to them on 17 Sep.

Fri 17-Sep-10 10.45pm Home Training

Dave aka Silks
Dear all
By no means complete, an updated training/fixture list until the end of September. Laurence from the Coyotes has confirmed the 4th and 5th of September for our trip to my old stomping ground of Whitley Bay - who knows, we might even get a home Newcastle game we could go to on the Saturday or Sunday?!? I also need to confirm the home ice, and I'll see what I can get Clive to offer us when he's back in work tomorrow.
A totally underwhelming response to Sheffield - so let's forget that. No response from the Anglo-Welsh Cup organiser - so it looks like we're forgetting that too! However a good trip to Whitley Bay lined up, and I'll do my best to fill in other dates.
Cheers
